"Our pleas fell on deaf ears", lament farmers as protest enters 13th day

Tirupur : Entering into the 13th day, thousands of farmers showed their agitation against the State and Centre government's proposal to install high electric transmission towers in agricultural lands.

Tirupur :  Entering into the 13th day, thousands of farmers showed their agitation against the State and Centre government's proposal to install high electric transmission towers in agricultural lands.

Including Tirupur, farmers from 16 other districts are also on indefinite hunger strike condemning the government's move which they allege to have fell on deaf ears.

In Tirupur, over 100 farmers are taking part in the protests near Kallipalayam.

As part of the protests, farmers today in Tirupur performed 'Thoppukaranams' in front of a tree, imagining the Tamil Nadu government as monkeys sitting on the tree.

The families of the farmers also threw mud on the replica of electric transmission towers and showed their disapproval.

The protesters said that farmers from 13 districts will lay siege to the Legislative Assembly on January 3, as the State government is not prepared to accept their demands.

In a similar agitation held in Udumalai, DMK MLA Jayakrishnan took part and extended his support to the 500 plus farmers.
